You know, if some of the idiots in the white house actually remember their own history, they could have avoided a lot of mistakes that thay are making now.

I told some people even before US forces invaded Iraq, that it was going to be a major clusterfuck along the lines of Vietnam and Somalia.

I was ridiculed, and when Iraqi forces surrended so quickly, I was ridiculed further for being an ignorant ass.

Subsequent developments wiped the smirks off their faces.

Often it is not the content that is boring, but the presentation.

That's why some documentaries work - who wants to know about turbine engines? Life cycle of a dung beetle? Constructing a skyscraper? It's not useful to me, just point me to the elevator.

But present it in an engaging way, and people can find something interesting in almost everything.

sadly, few know that the dung beetle is actually the symbol of Amon-Ra, the Egyptian Sun God...

because the dung beetle rolled a ball of dung around, it was like what the ancient Egyptians saw as rolling the sun from east to west... and the beetle became symbolic of Ra Laughing

And for those who caught ‘300’ and do not know the historical background behind that battle, it might be fun to read up on Spartan society and how they quite literally bred themselves into extinction. Interesting look at how eugenics may do more harm than good, other than the moral issue.

or maybe he just felt like it and thought it was fun. besides it does historians and what not good. but not the guy on the street unless hes interested.

and seriously, i can't be bothered whether it was a warrior society. it may make good dinner topics or be sused for research and prediction modles but its no use to me.

Yeah, that's what I did. The movie '300' actually inspired me to read up on the Greco-Persian wars and the Spartan way of life.

To say that the Spartans were fitness maniacs would be a gross understatement. If I remember correctly from the Wikipedia article, they enlist their boys into the army at the age of 7 and would only ORD at the age of 30.

And they would be reservists till they turn 65. Shocked
